This fall, Clarins added a new mascara to their permanent lineup: the Be Long Mascara, a formula that is supposed to make lashes look long and lush as well as help lashes grow longer after 4 weeks of continued use. Clarins offers this in two colors, Intense Black and Intense Brown, and I picked up the black version in a recent Clarins order after seeing a lot of people say nice things about it. It comes in a pretty gold tube, and it even has a pretty little wand. It’s not often that think a mascara wand is actually good looking! The bigger issue, however, is how well it works.
The wand itself is pretty small but has longer rubber bristles. The wand head bends a bit as I brush it through my lashes, and this combined with its smaller size helps make it easy to control. The bristles are pretty long, which is common for mascaras that emphasize lengthening, but I do find that it’s easy to accidentally poke my eyelid lightly with them and get a little mascara on my skin. The other factor is that the formula itself is pretty wet, which facilitates mess-making.
Messes aside, I think this mascara does a really phenomenal job of created deep, dark, lengthened and defined lashes. After I clean up the mascara that transferred onto my skin, I love the look it gives me. It gives great lift and holds a curl all day, and I haven’t seen any smudging or flaking. At the end of the day it comes off easily with makeup remover, too.
The two things I’ll be paying attention to over time is how the formula dries out over time, and whether I can notice a difference in the length of my lashes. Clarins says that their 4-week study resulted in an average of 1.1 mm increased lash length, and that sounds pretty great to me. As far as the day to day use of the mascara, I suspect that this will be an excellent one that’s easy to use once the formula dries out a little. When I’ve had a chance to use it for one or two more months, I’ll let you know how it goes.
I’m really excited to be trying this one out. The $25 price tag is competitive with companies like Dior, Lancome, and the new Marc Jacobs cosmetics line, and I think it’s a strong performer that I’ll enjoy wearing for the next few months.
Above, I’m also wearing: DreamWorld Hermetica mineral foundation in Rhea II C, DreamWorld Hermetica Whipped Creme finishing powder in Cafe au Lait, DreamWorld Hermetica blush in Morianna (not currently on their website), and Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me (it was a minimal makeup kind of day).
The new Be Long Mascara costs $25 and is available at Clarins.
Have you had a chance to try it? Let me know what you think of it!
