I usually keep to the drugstore when it comes to my nails, for the sake of reserving more money for makeup purchases. So, I was pretty excited to receive this full sized Butter London nail lacquer in my Sample Society box, as one $15 bottle costs the same as one entire monthly shipment from the subscription service. In the bottle it looked kind of brown, so I was a little surprised when it went on my nails as a straight-up metallic copper.

As I’d hope/expect from a product of this price point, the lacquer applied really nicely and dried quickly. I applied one good coat of it and stopped, with the plan to assess it over the next 24 hours before possibly deciding to apply another coat and perhaps a top coat as well.

Butter London describes this color as “a burnished copper nail lacquer with a beautiful antique patina. For sophisticated metal heads.” – sounds absolutely accurate to me.

I was a little bummed to see some tip wear on my nails in the first 24 hours, so my plan is indeed to apply another coat and then a top coat to even out the coverage and extend the wear a bit. I do see places where the single coat is a little thin and transparent, and that’s fine. I just like to try and get away with as little work as possible when it comes to my nails, it’s just how I am.

I love the copper color, and I tend to really like wearing golds and similar colors on my nails. Because they’re not too different from my skin tone, I find them to be really forgiving to wear. A little chip in a gold or copper will not be nearly as obvious as a chip in a very dark polish (though I love wearing nearly black colors, too). I also find that any shimmer or sparkle adds to the forgiving effect.

I think that in the context of the rest of the box, you can see why I expected more of a brown color instead of copper. Side note – if you’re at all curious about the Sample Society subscription, you can read about some of the boxes I’ve received here. I do seasonal roundups that examine the quality of the service, so a fall roundup will be coming after I receive my November box.

What are you wearing on your nails?
