I grabbed the Maybelline BB cream a couple months back during a Maybelline sale at my local drugstore because I had heard some nice things about it. I definitely have not waded in too far into the BB cream pool, and have never really felt the need to familiarize myself and experiment the different options on the market. That said, a flattering sheer coverage product that offers some sun protection sounds like a good thing to me, so I gave this one a try and I’ve really been enjoying the way it makes my skin look!
The coverage that this cream provides is indeed very sheer, but I find that the peach-leaning tone is pretty effective at evening out a little redness and waking up the appearance of skin. I use shade 100-light, the lightest of the five shades offered, and it works perfectly for my skin tone. I was also surprised to find that it’s pretty effective at smoothing out the texture of my skin and the appearance of my pores, as well as adding a healthy luminosity. The first day I wore this, I was going to be staying at home and decided to wear it all by itself with no other makeup. When my boyfriend got home that day, he actually remarked that my skin looked great. I think it’s because my skin really didn’t look made up at all, it just looked like a more perfected version of it’s natural state.
I do want to mention that the eight skin benefits that Maybelline advertises the cream to have are a little made up. A bunch of them are either meaninglessly vague or redundant. I’d say that the benefits that this cream provides are that it hydrates, provides SPF 30 and makes skin look more even. I know that traditional BB creams are supposed to provide skincare-type benefits in addition to coverage, and you really won’t be getting any of that here. That’s fine with me, as I rely on dedicated skincare products underneath my makeup to work on the health and appearance of my skin, but you should be aware of what the product actually delivers.
For me, the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB is best for days where I’ll mostly be sticking around the house and maybe running a few errands. I have combination skin and get a little oily on my nose, and I do find that I’ll get a little shiny after a couple of hours of wearing this cream. It works fine to powder it here and there throughout the day, but I prefer to not wear this when I’m going to be at the office for 8 hours for this reason. Maybelline’s website indicates that the Dream Fresh BB is most suitable for those with normal skin, and I’d say that makes sense. I’d imagine drier skin would get along fine with it, as well, but I haven’t been able to test that myself. I don’t find that I have an issue with it breaking down and disappearing on me throughout the day.
I’ve been applying the Dream Fresh BB with my fingers. It comes out a little thick from the tube, but spreads very easily onto skin. I don’t find that I reach for a sponge or anything to facilitate blending because it works perfectly with very little effort using just my hands. The coverage is very light, but I do find that it helps me instantly look a little more plump and awake.
In the photo above, I’d added a little Maybelline Fit Me concealer in 15-Fair under my eyes, DreamWorld Hermetica Peach Creme finishing powder (review), a touch of Nars blush in Deep Throat, Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara (review), and Maybelline Color Elixir gloss in Rose Redefined (review).
I’m really enjoying it! Have you tried it?
