This “dry oil” from L’Oreal was something that I purchased in the past month or two when I had an Ulta coupon. I sort of reached for it on a whim because I have straight hair prone to flyaways and dry ends but don’t like that heavier oils like the popular Moroccan argan oils can seriously weigh my hair down. I also try to look for products that have a chance at actually improving the health of my hair, not just the appearance. The L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Multi-Restorative Dry Oil claims that it repairs damage and has a lightweight texture, so it sounded like something worth trying.

L’Oreal describes this as a daily leave-in treatment for giving shine and reducing flyaways. The the oil comes in a spray bottle, and the directions say to either spray into damp hair or to smooth a small amount through dry hair.

I started using this right before I changed my hair, and so for a short time I really was using it to get smooth and shiny hair. Once my hair stylist changed my look to a more textured and shaped cut, I started to use a couple of products for added texture and styling control. However, although it may sound counter-intuitive to add an oil for a textured style, I’ve continued to spray this through my damp hair after getting out of the shower and before added any other styling products. I still want my hair to be healthy looking and I still want to tame flyaways, so it’s a really perfect solution that won’t have a really heavy effect on the final style.

I completely agree with the advertising of this product as a very lightweight oil. I use 2 or 3 sprays throughout the lower half of my hair and then work my fingers through my hair to distribute it, and I think that this product does exactly what it says it will. It also has a really pleasant smell, though I don’t notice it lingering after I’ve dried my hair. At around $6, the price is right.

I’ve really been liking this one! If most oils seem to be a bit heavy for your hair, I’d recommend giving this one a shot. It’s available at Ulta as well as most drugstores, so you can look out for sales and coupons, too.

Have you tried it? What’s you’re favorite hair oil?
