I don’t tend to be the resolutions type, and I think it’s generally pretty difficult to make big lifestyle changes suddenly just because the calendar says it’s a good time to do so. However, I do have a few things that I’ve been thinking about tackling in the new year, so I thought I’d sort of make it official here on the blog! I’ve come up with five simple beauty-related goals that I’m genuinely excited about taking on.
1. Explore natural beauty products
I’m generally interested in slowly integrating safer and more natural beauty products into my daily routine. A few that I tried this past year even made it onto my list of 10 standout beauty products from 2013). To be more specific, however, in 2014 I’d really like to explore natural shampoos and deodorants. It’s something I’ve never really done before and I think I stand to learn quite a lot from the experience, and the traditional options haven’t really treated me that well.
2. Experiment with dietary supplements
As much as I love to play with skincare products, there are some skin improvements that are better tackled from the inside out. I just recently picked up some keratin and fish oil supplements, both of which have the potential to help me out in more ways than one. This resolution will help me pay more attention to the options that are available and perhaps find something that provides a real benefit. It’s a slow process as it can take weeks or months to properly test supplements out, but hey, I’ve got a year!
3. Try out more indie cosmetics
This past fall and winter I tried out a few indie cosmetics for the first time, but there are still so many options out there continuing to tempt me. Not only do the products from these companies tend to be very reasonably priced, but I also feel pretty good about supporting smaller businesses that often have loads of unique, high-quality products to offer. I’m definitely looking forward to learning more about what’s out there in the coming months.
4. Wear bolder colors
I’ve always enjoyed wearing vibrant colors, but I’d really like to get better at reaching for them on a daily basis. For a while I had an office job where I was self-conscious about the makeup I wore, but more recently I’ve actually been mostly working from home so I have a lot more flexibility. Especially over the last couple of months, I’ve significantly expanded my collection of fun colors and I’m still working on figuring out how to use them all!
5. Drink more water
This one’s super simple, but can also be super effective. I’ve always been pretty terrible about drinking water, but I hadn’t been feeling totally myself for the past few weeks and actually started drinking entire glasses of water as I sat around in bed or on the computer. And you know what? I could tell that when I did that, I’d feel noticeably better the next day. So for my final resolution I intend to keep up this new habit. Not only should it help my physically feel better, it might also help my perpetually dry lips.
Do you make resolutions? I’d love to hear about the goals you have for the coming year!
