Maybelline’s The Falsies mascara is a hit with a lot of people and I’ve been meaning to try it for a while. I actually have a lot of drugstore mascaras to catch up on because I used to stick with Clinique mascaras with only the occasional break for a mascara mini purchased with my Sephora reward points. I recently decided to pick this one up when I walked into an Ulta with a 20% coupon in hand.

I try to only keep 1-3 mascaras open at one time, and I was excited to finally open this one up after my Maybelline Illegal Length started to dry up on me (my review of that one is here … it really turned out to be a good one). The Falsies is advertised to give full, voluminous, and clump-free lashes.

The Falsies wand is sort of a spoon shape. It’s flattened and curved. I haven’t tried a wand quite like this one before, but I find it really easy to use.

I have to say, I really think Maybelline’s marketing language for this mascara is spot-on. With just one coat, my lashes look more voluminous, full, and plentiful. It also gives a nice fanned-out curl that stays throughout the day. It layers nicely without clumps, but I also really love that I don’t feel like I need to layer more than one coat in order to get a good effect. That’s ideal for me, as I find it annoying to take the time and apply multiple coats of mascara.

The Falsies isn’t super-natural or super-bold, it’s somewhere in the middle and works well for me day to day. It lasts really well throughout the day and I don’t see flaking or smudging. At the end of the day it comes off without too much trouble.

Above, I’m also wearing: a mix of L’Oreal True Match (review) and Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous liquid foundations, NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder (review), Maybelline Dream Bouncy blush in Orchid Hush and Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush in Natural, Maybelline brow pencil in Blonde and Jane Iredale PureBrow gel in Blonde (review), and a light application of Illamasqua lip gloss in Lily-Rose.

I can really see why so many people speak highly of this mascara. I love it! It’s a fabulous buy at $7. You can find it at Maybelline, Ulta, and drugstores.

Have you tried it? Do you love it?

  1. I haven’t used this mascara in such a long time! I ran out of it some time ago and haven’t picked up another since because it started to get really clumpy. Next time I’m at the drugstore I think I’m gonna give it another try, thanks for sharing your review!

    1. I like them both! And the effects they give aren’t terribly different. It might come down to brush preference, as The Falsies has a bushy bristle brush and Voluminous Butterfly has a comb-style plastic wand. I do tend to enjoy comb wands, personally, and find they make getting to the roots of lashes really easy.
