I recently came upon the new Rio summer collection display by Revlon, which I’d been aware of but am not really drawn to, and realized that right above it was a collection by Revlon inspired by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 full of all kinds of lovely colors. The collection features 3 Super Lustrous lipglosses and 6 nail polishes, as well as some other repromoted items like Lip Butters and Highlighting Palettes.
Revlon calls this the Electric Chrome collection and all of the new shades have electricity-themed names as well as really lovely spiderweb patterns on the packaging. I tried to refrain from buying all of the shades, but I really think they make a pretty set. I love the moment around this time of year when you start to see really bright colors popping up, and summer collections tend to really grab me. Well, Revlon doesn’t call this a summer collection, but I guess I do.
I had some trouble picking out one of the nail polishes, but settled on the lighter blue shade called I’m Electro. I believe this shade channels the color of the villain’s bolts of electricity. I couldn’t tell ya who the villain actually is (could it perhaps be someone named Electro? Somehow that seems too easy), but I saw a poster at a movie theater and there appears to be a lot of icy blue bolts of electricity involved.
This is a somewhat muted blue with some bright blue and deeper purple shifts. The purple shift is more apparent in the bottle, while the bright flashes of blue come across strongly on the nail. It has some very fine shimmery particles in there, as well. My boyfriend doesn’t usually comment on my cosmetics, but this is a shade that actually elicited a remark from him. Something to the effect of “hey, that’s a cool color!” 🙂
I found the formula to be ok. Here I’m wearing 3 coats of it. It’s a bit watery, and I found the best success with painting thin layers and letting them dry completely before continuing on with additional coats. It dries pretty fast, which is definitely a plus. And, it’s a cool color!
Update: I just wanted to share how this nail polish wore on me. I found it really didn’t chip, and I just saw very even tip wear over the time I had it on (a week and some change). Take a look at how it looked on April 5, 8 days after the review:
Not bad, huh?
There are 3 glosses in the collection, all of which look pretty vibrant and feature very fine shimmery glitter particles. I picked out Sparks Fly, a strawberry red. The first thing to know about it is that while it’s vibrant, it’s also quite sheer. I generally find this to be true of the permanent Super Lustrous lipgloss shades, as well.
The other thing worth noting is that the glitter particles are very fine and the effect is very subtle. The gloss has a really lovely perfecting look on lips. Like the permanent Super Lustrous glosses, this one doesn’t have a detectable scent or taste and feels very smooth on lips with a very minimal level of tackiness.
I really enjoy this shade, and it feels like an effortless but pretty summer color. My lips naturally have a red tone to them so this shade plays off of that well, but you can expect gentler color if your lips are less pigmented.
I’m really enjoying these shades and can see myself getting a lot of use out of them. I’ll also be checking out the movie when it comes out since the first one was fun. And, I guess Revlon’s doing their job of getting me in the spirit!
Have you spotted this display near you yet? Are any shades grabbing you?
