I don’t typically devote a whole post to one dry shampoo, but I’m pretty excited about Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. Over the past few months I’ve been moving from dry shampoo to dry shampoo and not feeling too great about any of them, and came to this one without having heard anything about it. The claims are simple: it’s supposed to absorb excess oil, clean hair without water, and provide a light matte finish.
At the time when I was at Target trying to pick out a new dry shampoo to try, I almost went for the Pantene version, which I also haven’t heard much about. Then I spotted this one from Not Your Mother’s hair care line, which cost just about the same (both were right around $5) but the bottle was much bigger and contains almost twice as much product. I’m trying to keep spending down for the moment so that was enough to push the can of NYM into my cart.
I’ve been using this can for over a month, and this dry shampoo checks all the boxes for me. It’s a good value, it smells nice but the scent isn’t overpowering and doesn’t linger too strongly, it doesn’t look very white, and it provides a little volume and generally refreshes the look of my hair without leaving an obvious residue. It makes my hair look cleaner, which is the whole point of dry shampoo, and I think that saying it leaves a light matte finish is right on.
I apply it by sectioning off handfuls of hair and spraying it toward the roots. After letting it sit for a moment, I just finger through my hair (I tend to avoid brushing through second and third-day hair because it flattens it out).
I’m really enjoying this! This is my first product that I’ve tried from Not Your Mother’s, but it makes me curious to try others. Are you familiar with this brand, and do you have any recommendations?
Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo costs around $5 (depending on where you get it), and is available at drugstores, Ulta and Walmart. What’s your favorite dry shampoo?
