This is the second mascara I’ve tried from Kiko, purchased in while in Europe along with the Ultra Tech mascara. This one appealed to me because the curved, fluffy wand reminded me a little of Maybelline’s The Falsies, which is a fantastic mascara. Kiko makes some really affordable products and offer an astonishing variety of mascaras, and Unforgettable is a lightweight curling formula in a fancy-feeling brushed metal tube.
I actually really like the feel of the tube, which is a plus considering the underwhelming quality of the mascara itself. Sadly, this one just isn’t doing it for me. It’s kind of dry and adds a nice amount of darkness and fluffiness right to the base of my lashes, but I actually have to work at applying it to the ends of my lashes (which is kind of weird).
The result is that I don’t get any added length, though I think the darkness does a fine job at framing my eyes for casual, low-makeup days. It’s not totally flake and smudge-proof, but I don’t have as many problems as I do with the Ultra Tech mascara. My guess is that the formula is similar, but that Unforgettable is a little better off for simply applying less product to the lashes.
I still don’t find it works all that well on the lower lashes due to smudging. And now that the tube has had a chance to dry out a little, I get a little bit of flaking right on application, plus a little sprinkling of flakes in the evening. I think the good points are the black color, the lightweight feel, and … the nice silver tube? That might be it. It’s not the worst ever, but it’s not particularly good.
There are a few Kiko stores in the US, but not many, so I’d say a comparable American mascara I’ve tried is the Buxom Sculpted Lash mascara – that one has a similar natural look and lightweight feel, but it’s $19 (I picked up the Kiko mascaras for €7 each). I much prefer Maybelline’s The Falsies to both of those mascaras, personally, and didn’t find that Unforgettable compared despite the somewhat similar wand.
Have you ever tried Kiko out? Are there any standout products you’d recommend?
