I tend to be really attracted to color, and so as my wedding was coming up I thought it was as good a time as any to find myself a good nude nail polish for myself. I spent a lot of time playing around with the Formula X polishes at Sephora since they have testers, are affordable, and I’ve had good luck with them in the past, and I walked away with a shade called Monumental (a shade name that seems fitting for the occasion).
Monumental is described as an “ivory gray” and can be purchased alone as well as in one of the Formula X The Match CLIX! skin tone-specific sets – it’s the nude that comes in the light-to-medium skin tone set. I applied it the night before my marriage ceremony, and I used both a base and top coat, as well. I think this shade works best in 2 coats, and while it’s slightly finicky in terms of reaching complete opacity I didn’t find it frustrating. On maybe 3 of my nails I tried a third coat but ended up getting a little bit of bubbling from that, so I’d just stick to 2 coats in the future. You may be able to see a bit of that bubbling on my middle finger in the photo.
It’s a pretty shade, isn’t it? It took me a while to figure out whether it was the one I wanted to purchase and walk away with, but I think it’s really nice. I think the slight grayish tone looks very clean. It wore really well, though again, I did have a base and top coat on, as well. I thought it looked nice and glossy even before I applied the top coat, and I don’t think I saw a chip until day 4.
I’ll share a bit more about the wedding in a couple of weeks, but it’s basically a 3-part deal, which means I have the chance to pick out 3 different wedding shades! We had a New York City Hall marriage ceremony and a dinner reception in the DC area where my parents live, and then will have a banquet reception in Taiwan where my husband’s family lives (this one is coming up!). I thought Monumental was a really pretty City Hall nude. 🙂
The main Formula X The Colors polishes cost $10.50 individually and can be purchased at Sephora. The Formula X The Match CLIX! sets include 4 coordinated shades in mini bottles for $16, and come in 3 different skin tone-targeted options.
Sephora originals including the Formula X line have not been tested on animals, and while Sephora Collection products are sold in China and thus required by Chinese law to be tested on animals before entering the market, I don’t believe the Formula X line is exported to China.
Have you had good luck with the Formula X polishes, and do you have any favorite shades? What’s your favorite nude polish?
