I have some new stuff I’m trying out thanks to an Ulta 21 Days of Beauty special, the recent Sephora sale, and another shopping trip to Too Cool for School. Of the products I ended up with, maybe half of them were things I’d been really tossing around the digital cart for a while and half were more impulsive purchases. I just read that sentence back and it’s not right, the majority of these things were pretty impulsive. And it was fun to shop.
I have a few face palettes that I have collected but have yet to talk about, and I thought I’d compare the pros and cons for each and share swatches. I’ll be comparing the Milani Spotlight Face & Eye Strobe Palette ($13), the Zoeva Rose Golden Blush Palette ($16.80), and the LH Cosmetics Infinity Palette ($47). They’re all a bit different in concept and approach, price point, and even country of origin, but offer some similar kinds of shades and effects.
Over 2016 I generally reduced the amount of cosmetics that I purchased and really scrutinized new releases, which means that a Beauty Loon year-end wrap up can be quite succinct and focused. There were a few specific brands that became new loves for me, so you’ll see some brands repeat in my product picks, and I’ve gone ahead and broken down the favorites into 10 product categories. Ok, let’s go!
I made some orders with Zoeva and BH Cosmetics, and was spurred on by a makeup brush clean-out and a sale. Zoeva was the big one that I’ve been thinking about for a while, and finally put together an order of brushes and makeup to make the international shipping worth it. BH Cosmetics, on the other hand, won me over with a sale and some interesting new products on the site.
I have one more batch of purchases to share, and this time it’s indie cosmetics from three different brands: Shiro, Detrivore, and Femme Fatale. This was really all one order from Shiro Cosmetics, though, as they sell what seems to be a growing collection of other small brands, and I love that I can combine the different brands in one order and only worry about reaching one shipping threshold. I bought highlights, blushes, eyeshadows, a nail polish, and a tinted lip balm.
I ordered from Makeup Geek weeks ago because I was pretty excited about the MannyMUA palette that they’d released. Ahead of the launch I tried to refine a little wish list so I would be able to throw a few more things in the cart without thinking much, as well. All told, I walked away with the palette, 5 single eyeshadows, 2 blushes, a gel eyeliner and a brush.
I’ve had a little wish list going on Fyrinnae’s website for a while, and since my birthday was at the end of July I thought I’d grab myself a few things. I bought 10 products in total and received a free shadow sample, as well. A few of these shades are newer to Fyrinnae’s lineup, and some of them are cult favorites. I’m also trying two shadows from their Arcane Magic line for the first time.
I’ve recently moved to a new city and am currently looking for a new job, so theoretically I shouldn’t be shopping. I’ve continued to grab things here and there, though, and so recently I’ve been doing monthly purchase roundups because I tend to end up with a decent pile of new things to share. I’ve bought goodies from Lush, Sephora, Harmons, The Yeon, and CVS and will share some first impressions and swatches.
Shiro Cosmetics is a brand I purchased from for the first time this past Black Friday, and I grabbed a handful of eyeshadows as well as these two face products: the blush in 1-Up, a gold-toned pink, and highlighter in Curaga, a pearly cream. Both are extremely easy to work with and have a pretty glow without being over-the-top. At $8 per jar, they’re also really affordable.
I had some fun recently at Sephora and LUSH and wanted to share the new stuff I’m trying out. I had a couple of products I wanted to return to Sephora and I took the opportunity to pick out a few more fun things, and I had a few necessities I wanted to pick out from Lush. I can talk about my first impressions and share a few swatches, as well.
