Prior to about a month ago, I think I had only tried one product from Milani Cosmetics, and it was their single most famous product: the Baked Blush in Luminoso. But really, they aren’t sold in all drugstores and I just don’t get a ton of exposure to the brand. I recently took a good look at their website because I had become curious about some of their new releases, and in the end I purchased some solid basics, including their Baked Bronzer in 09 Dulce, which is a newly released shade, the Stay Put Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in 01 Linked on Black, the Stay Put Brow Color in 01 Soft Brown, and the Easybrow Tinted Fiber Gel in 04 Brunette.
I made some orders with Zoeva and BH Cosmetics, and was spurred on by a makeup brush clean-out and a sale. Zoeva was the big one that I’ve been thinking about for a while, and finally put together an order of brushes and makeup to make the international shipping worth it. BH Cosmetics, on the other hand, won me over with a sale and some interesting new products on the site.
Last week I saw someone on YouTube mention BH Cosmetics, and I realized that I’d just about completely forgotten about the brand! As someone who prefers to buy affordable and cruelty-free makeup, there’s a lot to love about them, and the only reason I don’t buy more from them is probably the simple fact that I have to remember to check them out online. There were a few basics that I was in need of, so I went ahead and placed an order that afternoon.
I’ve recently moved to a new city and am currently looking for a new job, so theoretically I shouldn’t be shopping. I’ve continued to grab things here and there, though, and so recently I’ve been doing monthly purchase roundups because I tend to end up with a decent pile of new things to share. I’ve bought goodies from Lush, Sephora, Harmons, The Yeon, and CVS and will share some first impressions and swatches.
I picked up Sonia Kashuk’s tinted brow gel from Target a while back in an effort to both explore the Sonia Kashuk brand further as well as learn more about affordable brow products that are out there in drugstores. Sonia Kashuk offers just one shade along with a clear version of the gel, and while I understood that the shade might not be ideal for me, I couldn’t tell for sure how fitting or how off it’d be just based on how it looked in the package.
This past month, I was more successful at keeping empty containers and tracking the products that I finished up! I used of a lot of skincare items, and there are a couple makeup products in the mix as well. There’s a lot of good stuff in the pile that I’m excited to talk about here.
Yep, more purchases! It’s a more modest haul, but I got some fun things. We had beautiful weather this weekend here in Seattle and while walking around I visited Lush and Target to browse and pick up some basics.
A few weeks ago I decided to try out a brow product from L’Oreal when my nearby drugstore was offering a brand-wide sale. Each of L’Oreal’s Brow Stylist sets contain two pencils in different shades for costumizable color, and I was drawn to the option in 350 Blonde because the lighter shade included is much blonder than the normal pencil offerings. At around $9, the price is a little higher than other drugstore pencils but it’s also nice to be able to play with two shades to get the the right look.
Recently as I was picking up some gifts from BeautyBar.com, I decided to throw this tinted brow gel into my cart. I had been eyeing it for a while but had been checking out other similar products, as well. The new Gimme Brow by Benefit had been a contender, especially since so many people have been speaking so highly of it, but when I took a look at it at Sephora it seemed that the lightest option was still too dark and red-toned to work for me. Jane Iredale offers an option that is both cheaper and very well suited for blondes.
I have very light eyebrows and eyelashes. In my mental image of myself, both are actually invisible. This is because for most of my life they’ve come in extremely blonde. I have a specific memory of walking through a store at the mall when I was in middle school and catching a glimpse of myself in a mirror, and I was startled that under the store lighting it appeared that I had no eyebrows at all. As mundane as it is, it’s a moment that has always stuck around in my mind. These days my brows come in as more of an ash blonde so they’re more visible than they used to be, but a product that can subtly enhance my pale brows while still looking natural is very valuable to me.
