Hey, I bought some things a little bit of a discount. Wanna see what I got? I took advantage of sales last week at Sephora and Kiehl’s that happened to begin over the same weekend, which I’m sure was no coincidence. I grabbed a couple of things impulsively, but more than anything I took it as a chance to stock up on the kinds of products that I run through the quickest, in the hopes that I can push off needing to make additional purchases over the next several months.
I’ve filled up another little bag with empty products that I used up over the past season. As is typical, most of the bag is full of skincare—I managed to go through 6 serums, actually, which is some sort of accomplishment. There’s also cleansers, moisturizers, a little bit of makeup, and some hair and body care. In general, I really liked a lot of the stuff I used up, too!
It’s been a while since I’ve gone through a batch of empty products. I’ve recently been unloading my empties whenever the bag starts to overflow, which seems to translate to a seasonal basis, and summer is just a few days away. I’m also going to be moving apartments soon and so it’s an appropriate time to be going through the cabinets and cleaning things out a bit! So, here’s a look at all of the skincare, makeup, body, and hair care products I used up throughout the spring and will be discarding.
I guess it’s sale season! Anticipating the springtime 20% off sale at Kiehl’s (which will continue until 5/22), I’d been holding out on buying anything from them over the past couple of months so I could stock up all at once. This time around I was a VIP rewards member so right at the beginning of the sale I qualified for a 25% discount for a 24-hour period, which is when my husband and I visited a nearby store. Beyond that sale, I also received my new Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner, my order from The Ordinary which took a while to ship, and found a new cleansing oil to try out.
After I had such good luck with Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, which I wrote about here, I had been really curious to try some of the 10 other eye creams and serums that the brand offers. Where to start? I have to admit that part of the reason I was drawn to the Rosa Arctica Anti-Aging Eye Cream was the pretty frosted aqua jar, but it also seemed like a good next step because it’s meant to generally smooth, firm, and brighten the eye area for a youthful appearance.
I took a little break from keeping up with empties that I was going through, and I thought now that February is over I’d revisit the products that I’ve used up this winter. I’ve been a little more selective about the empty trash that I keep around so hopefully this is an easier group of things to keep up with and makes for a breezier read. Here are my final thoughts on the makeup and skincare products that deserve one last look before getting tossed out.
Over 2016 I generally reduced the amount of cosmetics that I purchased and really scrutinized new releases, which means that a Beauty Loon year-end wrap up can be quite succinct and focused. There were a few specific brands that became new loves for me, so you’ll see some brands repeat in my product picks, and I’ve gone ahead and broken down the favorites into 10 product categories. Ok, let’s go!
I’ve really been exploring a lot of skincare from Kiehl’s over the past several months, evidenced by posts here and here. While I fortunately can’t say any of the products have been complete misses for me, I definitely have some favorites that I’m very excited about. I’m even at a point where I can chat about 5 of my favorite products covering 5 different product categories, so it seems like a great time to talk about the stuff I’m really enjoying.
I’ve been going through a phase of spending over the past few weeks and have a good amount of skincare, makeup, and body care that’s recently come into my life. Most of it is new to me and I think a lot of it is really fun. I have products from Kiehl’s, Club Clio, and Muji that I’m particularly excited about.
It probably shouldn’t have taken me this long to try some Kiehl’s products, but now that I’m in New York City I’ve passed through their flagship store in the East Village at a couple of times and have started to explore product range. Their flagship store is actually their original location that dates back to 1851 (a date that’s proudly proclaimed on all of their product packaging) when it was a pharmacy, and is a really cool place to visit.
