I’ve been buying some more stuff. A few basics, a few replacements of similar products I’m running out of, and a few nice-to-haves. I’ve been trying a couple of products for a couple of weeks now but most of it is brand new and I’m just starting to try out the different bits. I have some cleansing products and makeup from Sephora, lip colors from MAC, and some natural bath and body from Whole Foods.
I had some fun recently at Sephora and LUSH and wanted to share the new stuff I’m trying out. I had a couple of products I wanted to return to Sephora and I took the opportunity to pick out a few more fun things, and I had a few necessities I wanted to pick out from Lush. I can talk about my first impressions and share a few swatches, as well.
Happy 2015! I wanted to take a moment and talk about some of my favorite products I’ve been using over the past year. I’m starting with makeup picks and then moving on to skincare and body care, and I like the exercise of narrowing a list down to ten – it really makes me focus on the things I was most excited to experience for the first time and continue to reach for on a daily basis.
When I was packing for our trip to the Southwest, I knew I should be prepared for some heat. However, about a week into the trip it became clear that my skin wasn’t reacting the way I had assumed it would – I’d completely underestimated the dryness of the climate. Because the makeup in my collection was either going to be carried with me on the trip or heading into storage, I had decided to bring along a handful of different foundations, which would allow me to experiment with a number of different product combinations to help me deal with the climate.
The NARS Translucent Crystal setting powders received a ton of attention in 2013, but the price point was generally what made me hesitant to purchase. I actually ended up receiving the loose version for Christmas, and was really excited to be able to give a product with this good of a reputation a try without worrying about the money. The Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder is advertised to perfect the appearance of skin by softly blurring pores and fine lines while setting and prolonging the wear of makeup.
Over the past week I’ve been trying out a sample of the famous Nars Sheer Glow foundation. Everyone jokes about the name of this one, but it’s true – this foundation isn’t particularly sheer nor is it glowy. It’s a lovely medium coverage, satin finish base and Nars advertises a weightless, hydrating formula that can improve skin’s brightness, radiance and texture over time.
The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is one of my favorite go-to products, and one of the few higher end products that I repurchase despite the high price tag. Part of the reason I can get over the price is that you get a lot of product in a bottle, 1.9 oz, about twice what you get with a lot of other foundations. It works just the same as a foundation for me, and it’s not like I need to use more product in an application. I think I use less, actually. The other reason why I repurchase this is that it really makes my skin look like it’s just naturally more healthy and radiant than it looks on its own. When I receive compliments my skin, I most likely wearing this.
