I have combination skin that’s very prone to dryness and dehydration, particularly around my eyes and cheeks. About two weeks ago my skin started getting hit hard by the changing weather and colder, drier air and I’ve needed to adjust my skincare in a big way. Dry skin generally requires more care than just a heavy face cream, and I’ve developed a handful of strategies for alleviating tight, irritated, and generally sad winter skin. Here are five main ways I approach dry skin, and a bunch of my favorite products I’ve found in each category.
It’s been a while since I’ve gone through a batch of empty products. I’ve recently been unloading my empties whenever the bag starts to overflow, which seems to translate to a seasonal basis, and summer is just a few days away. I’m also going to be moving apartments soon and so it’s an appropriate time to be going through the cabinets and cleaning things out a bit! So, here’s a look at all of the skincare, makeup, body, and hair care products I used up throughout the spring and will be discarding.
I took a little break from keeping up with empties that I was going through, and I thought now that February is over I’d revisit the products that I’ve used up this winter. I’ve been a little more selective about the empty trash that I keep around so hopefully this is an easier group of things to keep up with and makes for a breezier read. Here are my final thoughts on the makeup and skincare products that deserve one last look before getting tossed out.
Over 2016 I generally reduced the amount of cosmetics that I purchased and really scrutinized new releases, which means that a Beauty Loon year-end wrap up can be quite succinct and focused. There were a few specific brands that became new loves for me, so you’ll see some brands repeat in my product picks, and I’ve gone ahead and broken down the favorites into 10 product categories. Ok, let’s go!
I’ve been going through a phase of spending over the past few weeks and have a good amount of skincare, makeup, and body care that’s recently come into my life. Most of it is new to me and I think a lot of it is really fun. I have products from Kiehl’s, Club Clio, and Muji that I’m particularly excited about.
I wanted to dive into some more skincare because I’ve been really flying through these products and have really enjoyed them. Back in the winter I needed some heavier moisturizing products, and it turned out that a Nature Republic had just opened up in Union Square. If you’re in New York City but don’t want to trek all the way out to Flushing to shop for Asian skincare, this is a great location to have here. It’s nice and large, unlike the Manhattan Chinatown location which is a closet.
I’ve gotten out of the swing of reviewing empty products every month, and have been thinking it might make more sense to chat about them every two months or so. The upside of that is that there’s just a wider variety of stuff to talk about, though it also means there’s more to cover in a single post, as well. That means I’ll try to be quick as I give an overview of each product and determine whether it was worth the purchase!
Now after finishing up all of those empties I just wrote about, I’ve been making small shopping runs to take advantage of things like post-holiday sales and new releases at the drugstore to replenish. I have some stuff from Sephora, Nature Republic, Vitacost, Whole Foods, Costco, and Duane Reade to share.
Summer’s flying by, and I’ve personally been particularly focused on skincare products to help my skin, which has been giving me some trouble. In addition to a good bundle of skincare, I also have some makeup and body products in the mix of monthly empties. I really used up a lot of products throughout July, so I’ll try to be succinct and to the point!
Another month, another batch of empty products. This time, for the first time since I’ve been doing these posts, all of my products belong to one category: skincare. There’s all kinds of skincare here, and I’ll quickly run through what I thought of each product.
