I have combination skin that’s very prone to dryness and dehydration, particularly around my eyes and cheeks. About two weeks ago my skin started getting hit hard by the changing weather and colder, drier air and I’ve needed to adjust my skincare in a big way. Dry skin generally requires more care than just a heavy face cream, and I’ve developed a handful of strategies for alleviating tight, irritated, and generally sad winter skin. Here are five main ways I approach dry skin, and a bunch of my favorite products I’ve found in each category.
I’m said very positive things about the Danish brand Raunsborg in the past, and I’m really excited to be able to say that their products are now available in the US through the website A Bit of Denmark. The site carries a bunch of skin, body, and fragrance products from the brand, and also has a collection of travel sizes available both individually and as a complete set.
I’m not normally the type to remark on the passage of time, but February went by really quickly for me. I had a major work event, flew around the US a couple of times, and then flew off to Europe for a vacation, which is where I am now! I have a handful of really great products that I finished up this month, including skincare, hand care, and a makeup brush that I’m tossing.
Up until the summer, I had been reviewing the products I finished up on a monthly basis, but once I started traveling at the beginning of the summer I had to change my approach a little. It wasn’t practical for me to save up the empty containers and I found that I was too short on time to keep up with the monthly posts, and so instead I just kept a list and made a note when I finished something up. Now that I’ve recently come home, it’s a great time to review some of the products I used up while I was away.
Usually I write about the products I use up on a monthly basis. I’m traveling at the moment, so I thought that I’d switch to writing about my used up products every time I finish five of them. Seem reasonable? This time around it does add up to about a month of products, but over the next couple of months the routine may be a little more uneven. Anyways, I’ve finished a combination of face and body products and can say a bit about how each of them worked out.
For 2014 I’ve started keeping track of the products I use up each month, and throughout March I finished a mix of skincare, cosmetics, body and hair care products. Keeping track helps me keep focused on using stuff up rather than just hoarding half-used containers, and it gives me the opportunity to say a few words about stuff that might have otherwise passed by without a full review.
This past summer I discovered Raunsborg when I was vacationing in Copenhagen and totally fell in love with their Skin Tonic. I loved what it did to my skin, and even included it in my list of standout beauty products of 2013 in December. After my original review, Raunsborg reached out to me and sent me a few more products to try out. Sadly, their products currently aren’t available in the US, but I’m crossing my fingers that they’re able to bring them over at some point because they have some really great things to offer. I’m excited to share my thoughts on the three products I’ve had a chance to try: their body lotion, hand cream and night cream.
This past year has definitely been a good one for me when it comes to discovering fun new beauty products. I addition, this was also the year that I started the Beauty Loon blog and I’m so honored and pleased that you all have tuned in over the past few months! The blog hasn’t even been around for a full year, but I’m feeling celebratory and wanted to make mention of the products that made the biggest impression on me over the past 12 months. I’m covering skincare, hair care, and makeup picks all in one list. Here we go!
This summer, I took a really wonderful trip through Scandinavia and grabbed a few skincare products along the way. I had brought some of my Clarins toner (which I wrote about here) along with me in a travel bottle, but I ran out of it a little over halfway through the trip so I needed to pick something up. I deliberately set out to find a product that was from the country that I was currently in. My search for toner took place in Copenhagen, and I purchased the Raunsborg Skin Tonic at Magasin du Nord. Despite it not being readily available in the US, I really enjoyed using it and think that it’s a product worth talking about!
