Five ways to keep skin hydrated in the winter

By on November 19, 2017
Keeping skin hydrated with cleansers, toners, lotions, creams, oils, and balms

I have combination skin that’s very prone to dryness and dehydration, particularly around my eyes and cheeks. About two weeks ago my skin started getting hit hard by the changing weather and colder, drier air and I’ve needed to adjust my skincare in a big way. Dry skin generally requires more care than just a heavy face cream, and I’ve developed a handful of strategies for alleviating tight, irritated, and generally sad winter skin. Here are five main ways I approach dry skin, and a bunch of my favorite products I’ve found in each category.

Summer empties: The Ordinary, Kiehl’s, IGK, Weleda, Sun Bum, and more

By on September 6, 2017
Products I used up over the summer

I’ve filled up another little bag with empty products that I used up over the past season. As is typical, most of the bag is full of skincare—I managed to go through 6 serums, actually, which is some sort of accomplishment. There’s also cleansers, moisturizers, a little bit of makeup, and some hair and body care. In general, I really liked a lot of the stuff I used up, too!

Spring empties

By on June 18, 2017
Some of the products I used up over the past few months

It’s been a while since I’ve gone through a batch of empty products. I’ve recently been unloading my empties whenever the bag starts to overflow, which seems to translate to a seasonal basis, and summer is just a few days away. I’m also going to be moving apartments soon and so it’s an appropriate time to be going through the cabinets and cleaning things out a bit! So, here’s a look at all of the skincare, makeup, body, and hair care products I used up throughout the spring and will be discarding.

Too Cool For School Pumpkin 24K Gold, Coconut, Essentials, and Egg Cream sleeping/sheet masks

By on May 18, 2017
Too Cool For School masks: Pumpkin 24K Gold, Coconut Oil Serum, Coconut Ceramide, Multivitamin Vitamin A, Multivitamin Vitamin E, Egg Cream Firming, Egg Cream Hydration

I have a bunch of Too Cool For School masks that I’ve been using, all in the $4-9 range, and so I wanted to talk about them all in one place. I’m lucky enough to have a Too Cool For School storefront nearby in New York City but a growing collection of their products are also available at Sephora, while the rest of the others are definitely available from various places online (particularly Amazon). I’ve become a bit of a sheet and sleeping mask nut and really enjoyed trying all of these from a fun brand like Too Cool For School.

Stuff I bought during the Sephora sale, Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty, and more

By on May 4, 2017
Recent purchases from Ulta and Sephora sales

I have some new stuff I’m trying out thanks to an Ulta 21 Days of Beauty special, the recent Sephora sale, and another shopping trip to Too Cool for School. Of the products I ended up with, maybe half of them were things I’d been really tossing around the digital cart for a while and half were more impulsive purchases. I just read that sentence back and it’s not right, the majority of these things were pretty impulsive. And it was fun to shop.

Korean cosmetics shopping: Innisfree, Too Cool For School

By on March 2, 2017
Innisfree and Too Cool For School purchases

I’ve recently done some shopping from both Innisfree and Too Cool For School. I’ve had a great experience with Innisfree in the past and just try to wait for the website to introduce attractive deals before ordering. Too Cool For School is a little less convenient to order at the moment, though Sephora has begun selling some of their products relatively recently. However, they have a flagship store in Soho, New York City, that I recently visited for the first time and I was able to take advantage of a deal.
