I found this mascara in the sale bin at Sephora this summer, and thought it’d be a great opportunity to give a Sephora Collection mascara a go. I’ve actually never tried a mascara from them before, but I do know Sephora Collection sometimes offers pretty competitive products at a nice price. I just recently opened it up and started trying it out, and I’m kind of excited about it!
I love a deal, and a discounted price of $5 down from $12 definitely makes me happy, especially when I really have no idea what to expect from the mascara. Atomic Volume comes in a funny pear-shaped tube with minimal markings on it. It doesn’t even seem to specify a color, so I assume it only comes in the one black shade. It has a straight wand with short rubber bristles.
Personally, I do really like it when mascara wands are straight like this, as I think they are really easy to control. The shorter rubber bristles are not super dense, and I think this helps out with layering on enough product to add volume. The formula is relatively thick but still easy enough to work with, and I like to add one generous coating to my lashes. It doesn’t work particularly well to layer coats of it, as the formula seems a little dry for that, but I can get satisfyingly thick lashes with just one coat.
I like the volume it provides, and I also think it’s not too bad at length, definition, and lift, too. It seems like a decent middle ground between all of these. The formula is slightly thick and dry, but I like it and think it was a pretty great $5 buy! I haven’t had any issues with smudging or flaking, and my only real complaint might be that it sticks around a little too much and requires some extra effort with a makeup remover at the end of the day. This mascara is no longer on the Sephora website, but I’d suggest checking your nearby Sephora’s sale bin if you’re interested in trying it out!
Above, I’m also wearing: Guerlain Tenue de Perfection foundation in 02 (review), L’Oreal True Match crayon concealer in N1-2-3, Clarins Graphic Expression Face and Blush Powder (LE for Fall ’13, review), Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow in 10-light blonde (review), Urban Decay Glinda eye shadow palette and Urban Decay 27/7 eye liner in Rockstar, and Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me.
Have you tried any of the Sephora Collection mascaras?
