Lots of things are put on sale after the holidays, but I found a few small surprises over the past few days that I’m pretty happy about. I wanted to share the deals I took advantage in case you’d be interested in checking any of these products out! I shouldn’t be spending a lot of money post-holidays, but with these finds I didn’t have to.
If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you may have deduced that I love browsing the cosmetics section of Nordstrom Rack. Luckily for me there’s one nearby so I can swing in often and see when new things come in. I walk away empty handed more often than not, but every now and then they bring in some fantastic products (which proceed to sell out quickly).
When I was there a few days back I looked through a bowl full of Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter eyeliners. These products came in to Nordstrom Rack a few months after Urban Decay launched their new versions of them, and so these have been hanging out in the store for a little while now. I guess the holiday spirit got to me and I felt like it was the right time to bring some glitter home with me, so I purchased one of them in the golden shade called Midnight Cowboy. These would normally cost $18, but have been discounted to $8.97. These are actually on sale at Urban Decay for $9, but I don’t enjoy paying shipping and probably wouldn’t have purchased it if it wasn’t sitting right there in front of me.
Where things really got fun was when I noticed there was another product hanging out in the same bowl: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. I gave the stock a good look and only found one shade in there, but it was a nice one so this purchase was a no-brainer. It’s a dark blue shade called Binge that’s been discontinued, and I do not see any old shades on sale at Urban Decay anymore so I’m not sure if you’d be able to find it anywhere else. I love the price of this one: $3.97. These are normally $19 pencils, and discontinued shades put on sale through the normal venues (Urban Decay, Sephora) cost $6, I think.
A completely accidental find at Target was when my boyfriend and I were looking through some cleaning products, and I noticed some clearance bins at the end of the aisle. Let me tell you, we were many aisles away from the beauty section, so I have no idea what those bins were doing there. I was happy to have found them because they were full of Maybelline Dream Bouncy blushes. There was only one shade, though: 45 Orchid Hush. I’m not familiar with this shade so I don’t know if it’s just being discontinued or it was a limited seasonal shade, but it seems timely enough considering Pantone’s recent announcement of their new color of the year for 2014, Radiant Orchid. I already own a couple of the Dream Bouncy blushes and really like them, so this was another no-brainer purchase for me. Target normally sells these for $8, and this shade had three layers of clearance stickers ultimately marking it down to $2.38.
I also had a printed coupon for Target in hand during that trip. Right now if you check the printable coupons at Target.com, you can find one for $5 off any Pixi Beauty purchase of $15 and it’s valid until January 4. I’ve only purchased a couple of Pixi products (and really like them!) so I spent some time browsing before deciding to try out their Flawless & Poreless Primer, which costs $22. Pixi’s a little pricey for a drugstore brand, but $5 off of $15 is a pretty good deal.
Additionally, Caroline Hirons has kindly posted info about a 20% discount code for Pixi Beauty on her blog, redeemable at www.pixibeauty.com or Pixi stores (which I don’t believe exist in the US). I just placed an order through the site today for the Glow Tonic, a web-exclusive product that Ms. Hirons speaks highly of, and the Flawless Vitamin Veil foundation. I’m looking forward to trying more of Pixi’s products!
