This spring, Maybelline is introducing their Dare To Go Nude collection which includes six limited edition shimmery nude Color Tattoo eye shadows. Now, I completely missed their limited edition matte nude shades from this past fall – I spotted a display of the collection at one of my nearby drugstores, but the Color Tattoos had been completely cleared out and I never saw them anywhere else. So when I heard they had more nudes coming, I was pretty excited.
I’ve been following Nouveau Cheap’s coverage of the appearance of this collection and it was popping up in a lot of Bed Bath & Beyond stores. I checked into my nearby location a couple of times last week and once this week, and ended up catching the collection for the first time the last time I made a visit. The display was untouched except for the Color Tattoos, but luckily there were still 3 of them left. I was able to grab Beige-ing Beauty, Caramel Cool, and Sleek & Spice. (Update: I later purchased one more Color Tattoo as well as a eye shadow quad from the same collection, which you can read about here)
Beige-ing Beauty is a somewhat sheer, shimmery pale golden-toned nude with glitter.
Caramel Cool is a shimmery, warm and coppery light brown. It’s richly pigmented and opaque.
Sleek & Spice is a shimmery taupe brown, also nicely pigmented and opaque.
I think these are super pretty shades. If I don’t end up finding the other three colors, I’ll be ok with that. Caramel Cool was the one I wasn’t initially sure I wanted because coppery colors can be less than flattering on me, but this one doesn’t pull too strongly on me. It looks lovely and summery … I think it’s because it has enough brown in there. I always enjoy shimmery pale nudes, and the sparkle in Beige-ing Beauty differentiates it from some of the others in my collection. There’s something fun and youthful about catching a little glitter in the light, and it doesn’t fall onto my cheeks throughout the day or anything like that. I don’t think the photos properly capture the glitter. I think Sleek & Spice is a pretty perfect shade for me, and I’m definitely glad I found it. It’s very easy to wear, not too warm, not too cool, not too deep.
I have two looks to show you. First, I’m wearing all three of these shades on my eyes. I first applied Beige-ing Beauty on the inner half of my lid, layered Caramel Cool in the center of my lid, added Sleek & Spice to the outer corner, lash lines, and patted gently into the outer half or so of the contour of my eye socket. The only other shadow I’m wearing is Urban Decay’s Foxy on my brow bone. I tested this look over eye shadow primer. Eye shadows typically crease on me and I prefer to test their longevity without primer on days when I don’t have to be at the office and that sort of thing. But over primer, these wore like champs. No creasing or fading, and the sparkle in Beige-ing Beauty stayed put and looked just as beautiful at the end of the night.
If you’re curious, I’m also wearing: DreamWorld Hermetica’s loose powder foundation in Rhea II (review), DreamWorld Hermetica finishing powder in Ghostly Glo (review), Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer (mentioned here), Fyrinnae blush in Nordic Angel (review), Maybelline brow pencil in Blonde and Jane Iredale PureBrow gel in Blonde (review), Maybelline Illegal Length mascara in Very Black (review), and Revlon lip gloss in Kiss Me Coral. For concealer I’m using a combination of Pixi Correction Concentrate (review) and Maybelline Fit Me concealer under my eyes and L’Oreal True Match crayon concealer (review) on my face. I also have some of Pixi’s Crayon Combo in Wide Awake (review) on the lower waterline of my eyes.
Sleek & Spice is the only one I’ve tested without primer so far, and it lasted really well without any apparent fading or creasing. Below, I’m wearing it all by itself on my lid up to my crease, and just used a bit of Urban Decay’s Foxy on my brow bone.
Here, I’m wearing: NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Finland (review), NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder (review), Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer (mentioned here), Maybelline Master Hi-Light in Light Bronze (review) and Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush in Natural on my cheeks, Maybelline brow pencil in Blonde and Jane Iredale PureBrow gel in Blonde (review), and Maybelline Illegal Length mascara in Very Black (review). For concealer I’m using Maybelline Fit Me concealer under my eyes and L’Oreal True Match crayon concealer (review) on my face.
I’m really liking these new Color Tattoos! Haven’t even paid much attention to the rest of the collection at this point, but if I do I’ll give a little show and tell for the other items I pick up. (Update: I later purchased one more Color Tattoo as well as a eye shadow quad from the same collection, which you can read about here!)
Will you be hunting any of these down? Have you spotted the Dare To Go Nude collection anywhere yet?
